Characteristics
Plastome data place species of Andropogon sect. Leptopogon in a clade rather distant from Andropogon s.str. (McAllister et al. 2018), and thus nearly all species (except A. gerardii) occurring in Florida have been moved to the genus Anatherum (Vorontsova et al. 2023).
