Although Cenchrus incertus has sometimes been adopted for this species (Ward 2010), Simon (2010) and Verloove & Sánchez Gullón (2012) assert that C. spinifex is the appropriate name with an identifiable type specimen (http://herbario.rjb.csic.es/).
