Prunus serotina

Locality USA. New York , Bronx Co. : New York Botanical Garden. Near Dafodil Hill. 42° 52' 0" N 77° 52' 60" W
Description Tree 12 m tall; 65 cm in diameter; bark of branches scaly, dark, the trunk scaly-furrowed, perhaps more so than usual in P. serotina; mashed bark of twigs with same smell as P. serotina; leaves seem to be at the ends of long naked twigs, giving this tree a coarser, more "leggy" appearance than usual; glabrous beneath, without the characteristic white (at this time of the year) line of pubescence on either side of the lower part of the midrib; latest of the Prunus species to bloom in the garden, this tree perhaps lagging a few days behind other, native trees of this species in the area; flowers perhaps less musty than other P. serotina here; inside of hypanthium first orange, fading to pale yellow; almost no fruit formed, although other trees of P. serotina formed normal fruit this year; a number of characters make it appear slightly different from P. serotina.
