Description Infrequent shrub 2.5 m tall, leaves horizontal, flowers dull garnet red-brown, pendulous, anthers white; stems greenish when young.
Habitat Glacial boulders, humus; clay-loam soil; mesic to wet-mesic floodplain forest, currently not able to flood [land-locked]; with Acer saccharinum, Juglans nigra, Fraxinus pennsylvanica, Lindera benzoin, Ulmus americana.
