Description Common shrubs (but only seen in this one swamp) or small trees to 4 m tall; flowers yellow and visited by various flies; population composed of ca. equal numbers of staminate and carpellate plants; staminate flowers about as large as carpellate flowers, nectar produced in carpellate flowers by staminodia, and in staminate flowers by stalked glands on the inner whorl of stamens.
Habitat Taxodium ascendens - Pinus elliottii swamp, with Magnolia virginiana, Nyssa biflora [N. sylvatica var. biflora], Gordonia lasianthus, Persea palustris, Lyonia lucida, Vaccinium fuscatum [V. corymbosum], and Ilex myrtifolia [I. cassine var. myrtifolia].
