Description Common shrub to 0.2-0.5 m tall, some plants with numerous branches arching from ground level, but others with a short erect trunk, and then branching; young flowers initially greenish, then turning dull red at maturity; this species in both pine plantation and adjacent sandhhills.
Habitat Cleared young pine plantation and adjacent edge of swamp of Taxodium ascendens and adjacent sandhills (with Quercus geminata and Q. laevis); sandy soils.
