Description Shrub to 8 ft. high, wand-like or little branched. In the eight stands seen, in no case were the sexes intermixed.
Habitat In extensive Cladium marshes, confined to within a few feet of the shores of streams.

Description Female; locally common clonal suckering tree with single stems; scarcely branched; 0.8-2 m. tall; most with immature fruit; no male catkins seen in colony.
Habitat Bottomland forest in landscape depression; swamp margin; Cephalanthus, Liquidambar, Fraxinus.
