Habitat Seepage-saturated hydric hammock along blackwater creek. In quaking muck under a canopy of Magnolia virginiana, Sabal palmetto, and Acer rubrum, with a tall shrub layer of Agarista populifolia, Cornus foemina, Myrica cerifera, and Leucothoe racemosa. Herbaceous associates include: Boehmeria cylindrica, Carex leptalea, Dryopteris ludoviciana, Mikania cordifolia, Oplismenus setarius [O. hirtellus], Osmunda cinnamomea, Thelypteris palustris, and Rhynchospora miliacea.

Description Common. Mature plants ranging from 0.8 - 1.2 m tall, basal leaves mostly gone or severely damaged by insects and flooding by [the time of] anthesis. Population phenology ranging from plants in bud to others with dehiscing achenes at this date. Most vigorous in canopy gaps.
Habitat Seepage-saturated hydric hammock along blackwater stream. On soggy, often quaking deep black muck. Community dominated by Magnolia virginiana - Sabal palmetto - Acer rubrum - Cornus foemina - Myrica cerifera - Leucothoe axillaris - mixed forbs and herbs. Shrub and ground cover associates include: Cirsium muticum, Agarista populifolia, Dichanthelium commutatum, Decumaria barbara, Carex leptalea, Dryopteris ludoviciana, Salix floridana, Thelypteris palustris, Rhynchospora miliacea, and Bidens mitis.

Shrub and ground cover associates include Rhapidophyllum hystrix, Agarista populifolia, Dryopteris ludoviciana, Thelypteris kunthii, T. palustris [var. pubescens], Dichanthelium commutatum, Decumaria barbara, Carex leptalea, Rhynchospora miliacea, Panicum anceps, and Spiranthes odorata.
