Description Material from large, old plant with ca. 4 ft. of frunk raising the bud ca. 3.5 ft. above the ground.
Habitat On a rise of land; dry, sandy-humus soil under a canopy of thick myrtle oak [Quercus myrtifolia], laurel oak [Q. laurifolia], sand live oak [Q. geminata], and Chapman's oak [Q. chapmanii]. Understory of thick saw palmetto [Serenoa repens] with scattered Osmanthus, Vaccinium arboreum, Ximenia and scrub holly [Ilex opaca var. arenicola].

Description Acaulescent palm with 5-77 yellowish green costapalmate leaves; petiole smooth and unarmed, 36-65 cm long x 1.6-1.9 cm in diameter, adaxially channeled and abaxially rounded; leaf rachis 27-38 cm long, with 17-24 pairs of leaflets, the middle leaflets 58-70 cm long x 3.2-4.4 cm wide; androgynous inflorescence with a 6-22 cm long, 0.9-1 cm in diameter peduncle and a 36-69 cm rachis; primary branches 15-16, measuring 4-10 cm long at the apex and 10-17 cm long at the base; fruits black, 1.2 cm long and 1.8 cm in diameter.
Habitat Gently rolling to nearly flat pineland scrub; deep sandy soils on ridge.
