Description Single tree ca. 20 ft. tall.
Habitat Area cleared for pasture, appears to have been a transition zone between sand pine [Pinus clausa] to the N and flatwoods to the S; Quercus nigra common in low area to the E, but no Quercus laevis seen, apparently destroyed when the land was cleared.

Locality USA. South Carolina , Berkeley Co. : 15 mi. ESE of Moncks Corner; 1.5 mi. NE of Witherbee; Francis Marion National Forest.
Description Tree 15 ft. 2 in. DBH with old, rotten trunk; bark dark gray, becoming black and thick, rorugh, deeply furrowed, with ridges; leaves shiny yellow green on both sides, slightly lighter beneath, less bright colored; a few acorns of crop.
Habitat Longleaf pine-oak forest.
