Carya glabra (Mill.)Sweet
PIGNUT HICKORY
**
The segregate known as C. ovalis or C. glabra var. odorata is sometimes recognized but apparently does not reach Florida (Little 1979). For the northern USA, Manning (1950: 191) wrote that he was unable to distinguish C. ovalis until "with completely mature fruit collected in November." Little (1979: 73) wrote that there were many trees with intermediate fruits and that the distributions of the two [C. glabra and C. ovalis] are nearly the same.
