Solanum americanum Mill.
AMERICAN BLACK NIGHTSHADE
**
Along with S. chenopodioides s.lat, the taxa in this group are difficult to distinguish. Following Knapp et al. (2019), S. ptychanthum is appropriately considered a synonym of S. americanum. Solanum emulans has been recognized as distinct (common north of Florida) and was applied to a specimen from Alachua Co. Solanum nigrum was applied to a specimen from Big Pine Key. Solanum nigrescens was applied to specimens throughout Florida (Knapp et al. 2019).
