In the proposed revision of Phyllanthus, this species has been moved to the genus Moeroris (Bouman et al. 2022). This species can be characterized by distal inflorescences with only solitary pistillate flowers, pistillate flowers with subentire nectaries, styles appressed, smooth branchlets, main stems not angled, and leaf apices acute to narrowly obtuse (Levin et al. 2018).
