Viburnum nudum L.
POSSUMHAW
**
Using RAD-seq data, V. nitidum was strongly supported as a distinct species and lineage apart from V. nudum (Spriggs et al. 2019). Based on morphology, species assignment may sometimes be "ambiguous" (Spriggs et al. 2019). Generally, V. nitidum has smaller leaves and shorter peduncles and appears to be quite common in northern Florida (panhandle to the peninsula, at least south to Alachua Co.). Kurz & Godfrey (1962) distinguished two species but based more on qualities of the vestiture, venation, albedo, and blade margins (their V. nudum had wider but not longer leaf blades). For V. nitidum, Aiton provided a very brief morphological description with vague provenance and apparently the name has not been typified.
