The nativity of this species to Florida is uncertain (Howard 1962; Little, Jr. 1976; Morton 1988). Early collections include Big Pine Key and Key West in the mid-1800s (Blodgett s.n., NY), Sugarloaf Key in 1935 (Bailey & Hume s.n., FLAS barcode 25783), and Simpson Hammock in 1938 (Scull s.n., FLAS barcode 766).
