Characteristics
Recent authors prefer recognition of two additional genera, Cleistesiopsis (leaves sessile with parallel veins; C. bifaria, C. divaricata) and Isotria (leaves pseudo-whorled; I. verticillata), and characterize Pogonia s.s. (P. ophioglossoides) as having petiolate and reticulate-veined leaves (Pansarin & de Barros 2008; Pansarin et al. 2008; Cameron 2009).
